CONGRATULATIONS TO SRPA “IMPULSE” ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT TO ARRANGEMENT OF THE BESKID RAILWAY TUNNEL (SOURCE: SE “NNEGC “ENERGOATOM”)

The news that the first freight train had passed the new Beskid Tunnel from Ukraine to Europe slightly moderated yen for positive news, shortage of which has been especially felt by ordinary Ukrainians in the recent years. Though, celebrating completion of five-year-long construction of the tunnel that connects Ukraine and European countries - Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, journalists passed off the fact that in the construction process “Ukrzaliznytsia” had managed to localize as much as possible not only services as to construction work and procurement of corresponding equipment, but to implement Ukrainian technologies of automation and control systems at the railway as well.

Particularly, we will note that an old and reliable partner of NNEGC “Energoatom” for manufacturing and implementation of instrumentation and control systems to control a reactor core – “SRPA “Impulse” has developed, manufactured, trained personnel, and successfully implemented for “Beskid” a microprocessor based interlocking system that controls train traffic on the Beskidy Railway Station and Beskid Tunnel. MPC-U executes all train traffic monitoring and safe control functions and corresponds to the best world models. The system has an international certificate of meeting the high SIL4 safety integrity level of the CENELEC standard.

Having large experience in operation of highly-reliable instrumentation and control systems manufactured by SRPA “Impulse”, Ukrainian nuclear specialists congratulate colleagues on the fact that the team of SRPA “Impulse” has successfully used experience obtained in nuclear power engineering to increase reliability and safety of railway transport traffic.

We sincerely wish SRPA “Impulse” further progress on domestic and foreign markets of I&C systems for NPPs, microprocessor based railway automatics and extension of application spheres for experience obtained when implementing difficult tasks of nuclear power engineering.

Reference. The Beskid Tunnel has become the largest infrastructure project implemented in Ukraine over the recent decades. The tunnel is located at the border of Lviv and Zakarpattia regions and belongs to the 5th Pan-European Transport Corridor (Italy - Slovenia - Hungary - Slovakia - Ukraine). The new tunnel is of great importance for development of transit and export potential of Ukraine, as 60% of export flow of the Ukrainian railway pass through it.

The contract for arrangement of the microprocessor based point and signal interlocking system at the Beskidy Station and the Beskid Tunnel was signed between the Regional Branch “Lviv Railway” and PJSC “SRPA “Impulse” based on the results of the open tender where “Impulse” got a win against suppliers of Russian equipment.

Severodonetsk RPA “Impulse” is one of the leading Ukrainian designers and manufacturers of instrumentation and control systems (I&C systems) for nuclear power engineering. For the last decade, approximately 150 I&C systems have been implemented based on the MSKU 3M platform both in Ukraine and at European NPPs, including under the programmes of European Commission, Euratom, and EBRD.

SRPA “Impulse” is involved into key nuclear generation projects, including operation life extensions for NPP power units and diversifications of sources of nuclear fuel supplies to Ukrainian plants. Particularly, “Impulse” executes modernization of in-core monitoring systems within implementation at Ukrainian NPPs of technologies assuring the required reliability and safety level when operating cores loaded with fuel of different manufacturers - Westinghouse and “TVEL”. During the modernization process, “Impulse” implemented several solutions of this task simultaneously – across with integration of the BEACON software system (developed by Westinghouse), the own methodology was developed to receive neutron and physical constants, which assures the possibility of further use of existing in-core monitoring systems without the necessity to implement the BEACON system. Moreover, development of the own neutron and physical and thermal and hydraulic software code – the National Calculation System has been started and is in active process, the code according to its capabilities, scale, and effectiveness is in advance of the BEACON system and other calculation facilities existing in Ukraine significantly and will allow creating a complete (closed) cycle of development-manufacturing-implementation-support of in-core monitoring systems in our country.
